How can Da Vinci be characterized as a true Renaissance Man?

Leonardo da Vinci can be categorized as a typical renaissance man because the renaissance is all about the rebirth and the exploration of arts, science and astronomy. And Leonardo da Vinci studies all of these things. Leonardo invented, wrote, painted and studied in ways that no one has ever done before. This allowed him to invent and discover so much more. The Mona Lisa is one of Leonardo’s most famous paintings because of her smile. At that time not many people painted atomical accuracy and facial expression in their paintings and Leonardo da Vinci was one of the first to do that. Leonardo was also a great scientist as he made many discoveries about the human body; he used to make detailed sketches about every part of the human body. For example, Leonardo made a picture of the woman foetus that was very close to the real thing and before that very little was known about it. The way Leonardo da Vinci made so many inventions and discoveries made him a genius and a true renaissance man.

Brunelleschi's Dome

Brunelleschi, one of the most famous architects in the Renaissance period. I believe that it was his courage that led him to this success. One of Brunelleschi's greatest achievements was the construction of the great cathedral dome. This was so amazing at the time because it was the first dome ever built and before that people did not think it was possible. Brunelleschi was brave to keep going with his ideas even though everyone else did not believe him. When Brunelleschi first came up with the idea to build the largest free standing dome, he went to ask for a commission. But the patron rejected him as he thought it was impossible. But his courage allowed him to continue with is plans and 13 years later he challenged the patron to balance an egg on its top. The patrons tried but could not manage to balance an egg on it top so Brunelleschi showed them by cracking the bottom of the egg to make it stand. He told them that that was how he was going to make the dome. he was then commissioned to make the dome. Brunelleschi persisted and finally finished the dome in 1436 and it still stands today. Brunelleschi's courage to go against what other people believed made him a true genius.

Ideas

An idea is a concept deveoped in the mind. New ideas can come from anywhere like, imagination, exciting experiences, everyday life or just plain thinking. Every thing from the greatest inventions to the most useless things start from an idea. You can think of new ideas at anytime and at any place and they can turn into new inventions, a book or a songs.

I beleive

I believe that people today should be more positive. We should look at the good things happening in life instead of the bad things. If you read the news paper or watch the news for just a few minutes you would find at least 6 or 7 bad things happening in the world today and you would be lucky to find only one good happening. Sometimes things don’t always go as planned but Positivity will make you happy and feel much better about a bad situation.

About a year ago I sprained my neck playing football. This was one of the worst pains I have ever felt. I could not even twist my neck slightly to the left. But the worst thing was that I had to stay home for 2 weeks until it healed. Sitting home with a sprained neck is not easy and very boring. But I thought about the good things in life and I always thought that the next day would be better than the last. I stayed positive and got through it day by day. It helped me by making a bad situation fell much better and made it much easier to get through each day. As soon as my neck had healed I went back to school and playing football. Now I try to be positive and I try hard in everything I do.

I try to see the good things in a bad situation. I believe that positivity is powerful and that positivity brings hope into people’s lives. It helps people overcome problems and helps people get through a bad situation.

I chose this picture because it shows that there is always something good in the worst of situations and you should always stay positive and focus on the good things.

the battle of hastings

In the first game we had to choose one choice out of a number of options and we had to choose the right choice to win the war. I thought this game was boring because you did not have to do much and it wasn't very exciting. In the second game we choose to control the English and be king Harold, or the normads and be duke William and the vikings and be king hadgrada. You controlled an army and made all the tactical decisions for your army like when to shot arrows, when to move forward, when to fight, when to retreat, etc. I really liked this game because you could really feel how it was to be a king in a war and you could make all the decisions. While playing these two games I learnt that tactical choices are very important in wars. The battle of Hastings started in 1066 when king Edward of England died and people did not know who was going to be the next king. The nobles decided it would be king Edward's brother in law, Harold godwinson but some people did not agree with that. In Normandy duke William thought he should be king because king Edward made an oath to him before he died and king hagrada thought he should be king because he had an ancestor named cunt who was the king of England. Later on that year king hargarda attacked England but failed and king Harold was still king. But then duke William attacked and defeated Harold and now William is king.

Boy In Stripped Pyjamas Reflection

People should stand up for themselves when he or she feels that someone is doing something against his or her believes and values but most people don’t do this because the consequences could be very bad. During the holocaust the consequences for standing up against the Nazis was death and there was also the risk of your family and friends getting hurt. In the white rose movement where people stood up for the Jews, the consequence was execution and death. Even though the consequences might be bad it is still not right to be a bystander and just watch and not take action. The villagers in le Chambon did what they thought was right and sheltered five thousand Jews from the Nazis. It is much easier to ‘just accepting the situation in which you find yourself and everything will be so much easier' (Boyne 53) but you would be so guilty knowing that you did not stand up for your beliefs and values. The consequences for being a by standard could also be very bad. The mother in the boy in stripped pyjamas book lost her son for not standing up against the Nazis and her husband. I think it was the fear people had for Hitler and hitlers great use of propaganda which made him so powerful and mot many would stand up against him.

Steve Mccurry

Steve McCurry is an American photojournalist best known for his photography. Capturing the real meaning of human struggle and joy, McCurry explores themes of the resilience of the human spirit in many of his photos. “It is the stubborn and unassailable conviction – the ability to endure almost anything – that defines the Afghan soul and my fascination with it.- Steve McCurry”

A photo that really captured my eye is the one where children are climbing and hanging all over an abandoned tank.

This photo shows 5 children climbing and hanging all over an abandoned tank. The tank cuts right across the photograph and far in the background there is a city. The cloudless blue sky above them and the dry hot sand underneath them makes this place looks like a very difficult place to live in. this photo also shows the great resilience of the human spirit because these children probably had a very tough life and yet they are still able to bounce back and have fun with their friends. I think Steve McCurry is trying to capture how every child is the same and every child needs to playNo matter how dire the situation, how dangerous the environment, children need to play.”- Steve McCurry ”Whether it is splashing in puddles or climbing on abandoned tanks, their world of make believe is almost as important as food and shelter.” – Steve McCurry. A child may be very different from another, yet every child needs to play – whether it is in play ground or on abandoned tanks.

Another picture that really stands out to me is:

This picture shows a small child no more than 3yrs old hugging a gun. In the back ground there is a man standing behind him holding his head. This photo has an impact on me because I know children should not be at war and when I see this photo I realize that I have so much more than some of the children in 3rd world countries. The most dominant feature in this photo is the child’s eyes; you can almost look into them and see so much about his life. You can see. I think Steve McCurry is trying to capture the boy’s innocents and how he does not know anything else, this is the only thing he has been taught to do.

Overall McCurry’s photos emphasize the struggles and joys of life, just in different people in different cultures. I’ve learnt that McCurry’s work can change lives by showing other people the problems in the world and it makes them want to help the less fortunate. I think McCurry’s work is very special but he is just doing what all the other photographers are trying to do – capturing the moment-
