People should stand up for themselves when he or she feels that someone is doing something against his or her believes and values but most people don’t do this because the consequences could be very bad. During the holocaust the consequences for standing up against the Nazis was death and there was also the risk of your family and friends getting hurt. In the white rose movement where people stood up for the Jews, the consequence was execution and death. Even though the consequences might be bad it is still not right to be a bystander and just watch and not take action. The villagers in le Chambon did what they thought was right and sheltered five thousand Jews from the Nazis. It is much easier to ‘just accepting the situation in which you find yourself and everything will be so much easier' (Boyne 53) but you would be so guilty knowing that you did not stand up for your beliefs and values. The consequences for being a by standard could also be very bad. The mother in the boy in stripped pyjamas book lost her son for not standing up against the Nazis and her husband. I think it was the fear people had for Hitler and hitlers great use of propaganda which made him so powerful and mot many would stand up against him.
